Henchmen, Mobsters, and Hitmen are what gangster movies are about. But this project’s gangster roots starts with its development back in 2008 at Paramount with Dinero’s TriBeCa Production, production partner Jane Rosenthaul, and Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions.This will be De Niro and Scorsese’s 9th film beginning in 1973 with “Mean Streets” and their last in ’95 with Casino.
Netflix is taking now taking the helm with Worldwide rights after a $50 million international buyout by STX at last years Cannes Film Festival.
The film is based on the 2004 book title “I Heard You Paint Houses” mob slang for contract killings and blood splatter on walls written by Charles Brandt. Like the book the film will focus on the life of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran.
Sheeran once confessed to the killing of Jimmy Hoffa to the author before his death in 2003.
Production on “The Irishman” is set to begin later this year.
